OEM track lighting for a European retail bookstore.
A black surface-mounted track system and anti-glare LED track spotlights, supplied as OEM to our engineering partner for a bookstore fit-out built around a dark exposed grid ceiling.

THE BRIEF
A dark ceiling, and light that had to disappear into it.
The project was delivered by one of our engineering partners in Europe. The design intent was a modern retail environment built around a striking dark grid ceiling — a ceiling that is itself part of the look, not something to be covered up with surface-mounted hardware.
That set three requirements at once. The track had to sit on that ceiling without breaking it up. The lighting had to hold up commercially, because the merchandise is printed colour. And the spotlights above the dense bookshelves had to stay comfortable to stand under — a bookstore is a browsing environment, not a walk-through, and customers read in the light we install.
The contractor needed an OEM partner that could supply all of that as one coordinated package, to a fixed specification.
WHAT WE SUPPLIED
Four things the project needed from the hardware.
01
Black track system
Surface-mounted black track, supplied for a store whose ceiling is a dark exposed grid. Because the rail is dark too, the track disappears into the ceiling structure instead of drawing a line across it — the retail design stays the subject.
02
Anti-glare LED track spotlights
Deep-recessed spotlights were supplied for the high-density bookshelves. Recessing the light source keeps the bright aperture out of the customer’s line of sight at shelf height, which is why the same fixture works both above shelves and above aisles.
03
CRI 90 colour rendering
Colour rendering matters more on printed merchandise than on almost any other retail category: book covers are the product. The spotlights were supplied at CRI 90 so cover artwork, spine colours and promotional display tables read as intended.
04
Layout flexibility
Track-mounted spotlights are aimed and re-aimed without touching the ceiling. When the store changes a display, a promotional table or a genre section, the lighting follows the layout rather than the other way round.
HOW THE SUPPLY WORKED
OEM means the specification is yours, not ours.
As the manufacturer we supplied to the contractor’s specification rather than to a catalogue: finish, track configuration and luminaire selection were fixed to the project, and the partner’s branding and packaging requirements were respected. The partner keeps the client relationship; we stay the factory behind it.
For repeat orders the confirmed specification becomes the reference, which is what makes a project like this repeatable across a store rollout rather than a one-off.
ABOUT THIS CASE NOTE
What we can and cannot publish.
Client names, store names, the exact city and the contractor’s identity are withheld: the project is covered by an NDA, and our partners’ client relationships are theirs. What we can publish is the lighting scope, the products supplied and the reasoning behind them — which is what a specifier usually needs anyway.
The products used in this project come from the ranges on this site: lighting track rails and track systems and TL01–TL05 LED track spotlights. Figures for the installed article follow the ordered configuration, not a generic datasheet — ask for the current documents with a project enquiry.
Photographs in this case note are supplied by the project partner and are published with permission. They show the installation as built.
